Minnesota Native Landscapes, a leader in ecological restoration, is looking for an Herbicide Applicator/Equipment Operator. The Herbicide Applicator/Equipment Operator position assists with all aspects of vegetation maintenance including, but not limited to, selective and non-selective herbicide applications, vegetation mowing, and tree and brush control. The focus of this position is to become an expert in all aspects of spraying, as it relates to prescribing, applying and overseeing the application of chemicals based on vegetation management goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Completes a variety of field work duties including spraying, mowing, brushing/tree removal, seeding and planting.
  • Performs maintenance on spray and small field equipment.
  • Maintains work records and associated paperwork for the equipment, parts and materials associated with spraying.
  • Researches and determines the correct herbicide types, rates, application requirements and safety protocols.
  • Assists with other fieldwork duties as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience working in restoration landscaping or agriculture preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Ecology, Biology, Wildlife Management, Botany, Environmental Studies, Natural Resources Management or related fields preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with the safe operation and general maintenance of equipment, such as tractors, UTV/ATV, sprayers pumps, mowers, chainsaws and other equipment used for restoration projects.
  • Ability to read and navigate maps, as well as accurately follow directions.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must have, or be willing to acquire, a commercial pesticide applicator license.
  • Must have, or be willing to acquire, a Class A commercial driver license within 2 months of employment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, reach and move as needed in order to complete various vegetation management duties.
  • Prolonged periods of time standing.
  • Able to work long hours, including early mornings, late evenings and occasional weekends; operating hours may be reduced during the winter season.
  • Able to travel daily to various worksites within the state with overnight stays required.
  • Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold.
